Evaluation Q4

This is a text version of the conversation we had over MSN messenger, the text version is to allow easy analysis of the question incase there is any problems with the video with Blogger, we used red and blue to show the distinction between us two as we both have the same name.

Members of the group

In our group there will be myself, Sam Carr, Christie Lowe and Jack Staveley. We decided to group together as we knew each of us had good grades from the previous year all with a different area of expertise which we could utilise to help make a great piece of coursework.

Plan for today

Today I'm going through my entire blog and re-organising everything as I've got a little behind with it due to editing the music video.

Final DVD and Advert Cover

Here is the final DVD cover and adverts that we decided to use. We chose it over the other as it fits in with the airband / 70's rock archetype we were aiming for and looks like it would belong in the type of magazines / music albums our target demographic would read and listen to.

Secondary Ancillary Products

This is the second batch of ancillary products, although this looks more professional we decided it was too modernised and so didn't feel 'right' for a 70's air band conventions and theme.

Air Guitar Draft 1 25/11/2009

Here is the album cover I designed, I used the smudge tool in Adobe Photoshop alot and I believe I may have overdone it but I am quite happy with the design, I used the smudge tool to make the silhouette's hair a bit more wild as they are in other Air Guitar albums, I also used the Roman numeral 1 to show that it's the first album of the series as is done in almost every other Air Guitar album's I've seen. I used the smudge tool on "Greatest" and the silhouette's arm and hand to make it seem like it's being sucked into the air/light as I thought it looked pretty cool and rock videos tend to have a theme of storms and the power of weather as a kind of pathetic fallacy feeling. I also used the smudge and blur tool to make the sun light more emphasised and cooler looking.

These are the albums I drew ideas from:

Album Tests 18/11/2009

Just having a play around with my album covers design and picture used; here are a few quick examples of what type of thing i have in mind.

Now I know these are pretty rough and bland but over the next few days I will be playing around until I get a really amazing looking design so then we can all compare each others and decide upon the best looking and I want that to be mine, haha.

Also the sizing is off as I'm not so sure about a CD cases size yet so I will adjust that tomorrow most likely.

I still havn't decided on which picture to use of the two either, I like the last 2 as they are plainly of a guitar and the sun effect looks really cool and "psychodelic" whereas the top and first one is a stereotypical rock gesture rather than just an instrument and seeing as our video is of an air band and not of an air guitar I feel it works better.

Here is the original pictures as well, I'll be asking on feedback whether or not to add those effects as I believe the original pictures look quite good and the way I've adjusted the colour has ruined the sunrays and it doesn't look quite so cool.

The background sky is quite dark on the original pictures so I adjust the colour variation to make it more blue, although I am still deciding if the darkened stormy cloud works well enough for a front cover of an air rock band.

Call Sheet

This is our groups call sheet showing where and at what time we are meeting to shoot the video and what the group members and cast need to bring.

What I'm doing today 18/11/2009

Just came up to media at 10 to 12 in my free to get some work done, having a go at creating a cool looking album design and to start a bit of analysis on a few music videos.

Production Schedule Dates: 16th Nov - 23rd Nov

Lesson Plan 16/11/2009

Today I am planning on looking in on the editing of the film to see how it's going and if we can make any improvements to it.

Afterwards I will create this weeks Production Schedule.

Draft Ancillary Tasks

These are drafts of front covers for the DVD ancillary tasks, they show possible layouts for the DVD covers as well as colourings, measurements and kinds of fonts.

Textual Analysis

Before creating our ancillary products we had to analyse previous album covers of the genre we were trying to replicate, we chose typical 70's rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Kiss and The Sex Pistols to make our product look realistic and professional while sticking to the codes of conventions of this type of music as to help sell the product to our target demographic.

Original Versus Edited Photos

Here you can see how we edited the original photo's using Photoshop colour enhancements and adjustments to create a more suitable, professional looking front cover image.

The editing really helps make the images appear more professional as well as losing the dullness that was on the originals due to the weather.

Objective

Today I'm going to be recording the treatment on the sound recorders to help make my blog seem more like a web 2.0 site.

Filming plans changed 05/09/2009

As we were unprepared for filming on Monday 26th October and the weather wasn't really appropriate for filming as we were on a hill and it was very windy we decided to postpone the date to Wednesday 28th October as to not interupt the quality of the video.

Update 07/11/2009

We have finished our filming now and have gone over the project brief so we can see where we are and plan accordingly.

We need to finish this week:

The Day of Filming

As you can see from the pictures the day went fairly well in terms of weather, the consistency of and the fact that there were very little clouds in the sky when we were shooting meant that the footage had continuity without glaring confounding variables such as different shadows of cloud in the supposedly same time frame due to edits. Because we went early (10 AM) we were able to get all the footage and photo's in the one day (we finished at about 3-4 PM), this was a great help as it again helps the continuity of our video as the weather and background is always the same which could have been a major problem if we didn't capture all the footage in the same day.
In terms of our actors most of them did a good job with what we gave them to work with although certain members didn't look as professional as we had hoped, however that was a problem on our part as we gave them insufficient warning and time to practice their instrument and role in the video.

Here is the plan for when we are filming and what each member has to bring to the set, we have done this to make sure we bring everything necessarry as to not waste the short period of time we have to shoot.

Weather Forecast

When planning the day of filming we had to make sure the weather conditions were good enough. To do this we relied upon sources from weather forcasts such as the BBC websites and Sky's I also used my Iphone application, the reason we did this was to gain a broader forcast as predictions are known to be unreliable

Letter To Song Publisher / Writer

As we are using a copywrited song we have written a letter to the writers and publisher asking for permission. We are doing this as the exam board stated we must if not using an un-liscenced song and we are doing it now incase they don't allow us to use the song we can change before our shooting is planned to take place
